Milking the cash cow?

Wednesday, November 15 2006 | Holy Hollywood: Newsweek headlines Hollywood's discovery of religious market

...or just milking the most recently found cash cow?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

An evangelical pastor:

“People are still tweaked over ‘Last Temptation,’ and more recently ‘The Da Vinci Code’” says Matthew Crouch, of Trinity Broadcast Network fame, who produced and distributed “One Night with the King.” “Those movies are heresy to some pastors. We don’t burn people at the stake for that anymore, but it still kindles the same kind of rage.”

Anymore? I didn't know any Protestant church any time burned heretics at the stake. And is "rage" a new fruit of the Spirit?

Jeepers...Looks like the policy makers in Hollyweird are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

If they give us trashy porn, the religious community complains. If they give us Bible stories, the religious community complains.

I can't believe, they're still ticked over the Last Temptation of Christ. It was after all, only a movie and I've often wondered just how many of it's religious critics actually saw it. I don't claim to be much of a bible scholar but some of the things documented in the old testament were... shall we say a little "edgy" also. Ooops, now I've done it. Bad blogger...bad!

You might have a hard time finding "The Last Temptation" in the video stores. It carries some "baggage" and is hard to find. When I heard of it and wanted to see it, I had a very hard time finding a rental store that carried it in 1995.
I chose to see it because the title had me curious and I hadn't heard of the controversy surrounding it. Willum Defoe who played the role of Jesus Christ was one of my favorite actors and basically he was the reason I wanted to see it. Maybe if I can find it, I'll give it another view. The surprise ending is almost a saving grace for those who might be offended at the movie "content." Personally, I found it to be rather interesting and edgy. But it in no way insulted nor swayed my Christian views. It was a movie. Nothing more, nothing less and about as believable as The Flying Nun only it was geared for the thinking audience as opposed to those who might be prone to believe in fairy tales or propaganda.
